Kiteboarding Travel – “The Kitecation”
I sit here on the third floor of a 12-bedroom house that overlooks the Pamlico Sound. Except for my Dad, each person that fills this house I know because of kiteboarding. I couldn’t have guessed that eight years after I had taken my first kiteboarding lesson, I would end up here. I consider these people to be some of my dearest friends. We come together for one-week to seek adventure, enhance our friendships, and complete who we are as people. We are searching for these things together as a group, and we experience them individually on the water. We share our experiences and we grow together. This is what kiteboarding means to us.
It is on these trips that we can satiate our adventurist thirst. We feed it with the experience of all that kiteboarding is, not just a sport, but also a lifestyle. We fill ourselves with memories that really mean something. We experience inner growth during these vacations and it makes us more effective in our lives. It makes us more effective in our jobs; and overall, it makes us more effective in our personal relationships. This is a picture of the sport that you do not see until you are a part of it. You see it once you have experienced it and you do not realize its true until you have had some time to reflect upon it. If you are reading this and thinking, “This seems more like a love story than a kiteboarding article,” you are correct. We are head over heels in love with kiteboarding! It is out of our love of the sport that we are able to spread that love to others.
Based on our love of the sport and our pursuit to enhance the lives around us, our group has grown in size. We are always expanding the number of houses we get each year. While we grow every year, we have also experienced loss. We lost two members of our crew over the last couple of years. They have passed on before us and we honor them each time we come back on our trips together. We remember them and we cherish their memory. It’s an honor to have the opportunity to experience life like this. We carry the memories of past times into the future; we carry a piece of all of our kite brothers and sisters as we go out from here back into our normal lives. We are better people because of what kiteboarding has taught us. It has taught us to respect the power of nature, to respect the world around us, and to love with all that we have.
If this speaks to you and you wish to find out more information about our lessons, or our kiteboarding vacations, please feel free to contact us. We love to hear from new people that have a desire to get connected to this awesome sport. It does not matter if you are an advanced kiteboarder throwing down huge mega loops, or you have never even flown a kite, we love to hear from everyone.
