Access 48 (Sound) SW Large shallow and flat area. The windier the more chop. Lots of space on the water. Very small, sandy beach.
Access 59 (Sound) SW Big shallow and flat area. The windier the more chop. Lots of space on the water. Very small, sandy beach.
Askins Creek (Ocean) N, NNE, NE, SE, SSE, S Small Waves
Avon Oceanside (Ocean) NE Nice waves up to 6m high, depending on wind direction and swell.Big sandy beach. Lots of space. Make sure to stay out of the way of beach goers.
Barton’s (Sound) SW Flat to small chop. Small sandy beach with some buried debris at the South end. Gets crowded on weekends and holidays. Buildings close to the shore.
Buxton Motels (Ocean) N, NE, SE, S Nice waves up to 6m high, depending on wind direction and swell. Sandy beach. Land and launch to the north of the motels. Wooden fences in front of the motels.
Buxton Slick (sound) N, NE, NW Some low-lying grass islands just to the north of Buxton. These islands create extremely flat water. Very tiny access. Best is to ride the slicks coming from Kite Point.
Cape Point (Ocean) SE, SW Flat, choppy or waves, depending on wind directions. Big sandy beach with lots of space. Look out for cars and anglers.
Chicamacomico House (Sound) SW Flat to small chop. The Pamlico Sound is a huge waist deep water area. Flat water due to weed beds on the sound bottom. Small, sandy beach with lots of space, no crowds
Ferry Docks (Ocean) NE, SW Nice waves up to 6m high, depending on wind direction and swell. Big sandy beach with lots of space.
First Turnout (Sound) SW Flat to small chop. Small, sandy beach, can get crowded. Be careful with trees or bushes not to rip your kite.
Frisco Pier (Ocean) NE Nice waves up to 6m high. Big, sandy beach, lots of space.
Frisco Soundside Turnout (Sound/Ocean) NE, SW Flat to small chop. On the ocean side nice waves up to 6m high. Good launch. Beware of power lines on the soundside when launching and landing. Big sandy beach on the ocean side.
Frisco Woods Campground (sound) NE Flat to small chop. Ok sized beach with sand and mainly grass. Some bulk-heading and rocks along the east end of the beach.
Cape Hatteras Inlet (ocean) SW Shallow, Chop, Small Wave
Cape Hatteras Inlet Soundside (sound) Flat to small chop. The Pamlico Sound is a huge waist deep water area. Beware of tidal current flow and ferries.
Joe P. Beach (Ocean) Nice waves up to 6m high, depending on wind direction and swell. Big, sandy beach with lots of space. Look out for cars and anglers.
Kite Point (Sound) SW Great flat water spot. The scene starts here in OBX!Beware of wires on the launch.
Mile 31 (Ocean) N, NNE, NE Ocean side with waves. Size depending on wind strength and direction. When the winds blowing sideshore, N to NE, and the swells pumping, get ready for some epic wave riding.
New Inlet (Sound) NE, SW Big playground with very flat water and shallow water. The whole area is reserved for birds. So do not get on land anywhere. You cannot launch or land your kite here.
Oregon Inlet-South Side (Ocean) N, NNE, NE Nice waves up to 6m high, depending on wind direction and swell. SHallow areas with flat to choppy water. Watch out for current with going tide.
Park Drive (Sound) SW Flat to small chop. The Pamlico Sound is a huge waist deep water area. Small sandy beach.
Planet of the Apes (Sound) SW Very flat to small chop. The Pamlico Sound is a huge waist deep water area. Excellent for big downwinders to Salvo.
Ramp 23 (Ocean) NE Nice waves up to 6m high, depending on wind direction and swell. Large sandy beach with lots of space.
Ramp 27 (Ocean) NE Nice waves up to 6m high, depending on wind direction and swell. Large sandy beach with lots of space.
Ramp 30 (Ocean) NE Nice waves up to 6m high, depending on wind direction and swell. Large sandy beach with lots of space.

REAL Watersports – The Slick (Sound) SW This famous little island and its resulting flat water have been responsible for more advancement in the sport of kiting than most other places on the planet. Whether you are coming to Cape Hatteras for the first time or have been here many times you can always drop by the slick and watch some of the best kiters in the sport throw down in the REAL Slider Park and Kickers. Working best on a SW wind the Slick is a great place to stop off during a sound side down-winder or drop down to from Salvo Day Use Area (SDA). You will be met by buttery flat water even if it’s nuking 7m weather. Rip through the slick on a speed run, send a huge jump or perfect your latest wakestyle offering, this is the spot to push it!
Rodanthe Oceanside (Ocean) NE Nice waves up to 6m high, depending on wind direction and swell. Sandy beach, with some houses build on it, which takes away space in some areas.
Rodanthe Soundside (Sound) SW Big area with flat and shallow water. Different access points to the sound side. Mainly small with a little sand. Launching from the water is no problem, since it is shallow everywhere.
S-Turns (Ocean) N, NE, SE, S Nice waves up to 6m high, depending on wind direction and swell. Soft sand beach.
Salvo Day use Area (Sound) SW Rig on the sandy beach and head out into the lagoon to find steady winds, flat water and lots of space to go out and play.
Lots of Windsurfers, but plenty of room for everyone.
Mellow community of kiters here that will be only too happy to get you launched and out on the water.
Summer is best, great family spot for non-kiters too.

South Beach (Ocean) SW, WSW, W, WNW, NW Flat, choppy or waves depending on the wind direction. Good waves after strong south winds. Sandy beach. Lots of space.
The Bath House (Ocean) SW Nice waves up to 6m high, depending on wind direction and swell. Sandy beach. Very popular tourist beach in summer.
The Lighthouse (Ocean) NE Three metal jetties stick into the ocean and form good waves at this beach. Ask locals where they are located before you go out. Sandy beach. Launch south (downwind) of the southernmost jetty to avoid any accidents. For experienced riders only.
The Slick (Sound) SW Extremely flat water if the winds comes over the island. The Pamlico Sound is a huge waist deep water area. Boomerang-shaped island. No access from the island. You need to do a downwinder from any access on the big island close to Waves.
Third Turnout (Sound) SW Flat to small chop. The Pamlico Sound is a huge waist deep water area. Small, sandy beach. Land to the South and North, so very secure.
Vermont Hole (Sound) SW Flat to small chop. The Pamlico Sound is a huge waist deep water area. Limited sandy area, only holds a few riders.
