Had an awesome time and learned a lot on our first lesson. Gray was our instructor and was great to work with. Definitely heading back.Zack BehringerSeptember 18, 2019

This was an amazing experience. I wanted to learn how to kiteboard the first time I saw someone doing it. Ayyoub at Blown turned me into a kiteboarder in two lessons. Thanks dude, you're an awesome instructor - couldn't have done it without you! Michael and his team run a first class operation and I give them my highest recommendation. Can't wait until my next sessions with Blown Kiteboarding!!bobhitch101August 11, 2018
Great experience, highly recommended! My daughter and I went to Blown for a lesson yesterday and went out with Michael. First let me say the whole process of getting information about the program and scheduling was easy and seamless, every staff member we talked to friendly and helpful. The experience with Michael was fantastic, both Ava and I have had many lessons in various sports and this ranks among the best with both of us progressing from complete beginners to managing the kite and getting up for a little ride on first lesson. We will definitely be returning for more.Mark BeatyAugust 1, 2018
I cannot recommend these guys enough! If you are vacationing to or live on the Crystal Coast Blown kiteboarding is the place to go. Michael and his team offer great instruction to the first time kiteboarder along with anyone trying to hone their skills for the next level. Michael also offers some of the best equipment in the sport and will work hard to help guide you for your particular needs.
I started looking into the sport earlier this summer and couldn’t be happier about the results. Blown kiteboarding has been my go to place for lessons and gear throughout the journey. Thanks guys!Adam DavisOctober 7, 2017
Perfect place to learn and great instructorsThaddeus ElmsAugust 5, 2017
If you want the experience of a lifetime then book a lesson with Blown Kiteboarding. They are very knowledgeable of kiteboarding, have great instructors, and are located in an ideal place - Bogue Sound. Great experience.JD CorbettJuly 23, 2017
What a discovery for me! Michael and Sarah were wonderful hosts for my kiting sessions on the North Carolina coast. Blown Kiteboarding offers a very unique opportunity for experienced riders to take the pontoon taxi to their teaching spot---a long sand bar in Bogue Sound. After seeing their set-up and instruction, I really wish this was the location I learned how to kite. It is a hazard free location with waist deep, flat water and consistent winds. Knowing that you have a few miles of shallow water and the watchful eyes of The Blown Kiteboarding crew, you have the confidence to work on new skills without adding the fear of strong currents, boat traffic, hypothermia, Great Whites, etc.Drew WittmanJune 21, 2017
I highly recommend Blown for Kite Boarding lessons. They have the best equipment, location, instructors and they're prices are very competitive. Owner/instructor Michael remains positive and encouraging through the steep learning curve and successfully got our group of three on the board during the first lesson. We were all consistently riding by lesson four. Blown takes the class to the spot that is best for the conditions by pontoon boat and they are the only kiteboarding school that uses radio headsets for communication once you're up and riding.
Kiteboarding is not a sport to be taken lightly. In order to be successful at this challenging and awesome sport, you have to do everything right. Whether you are a first timer, or a pro. go to Blown and they will make sure you have the best equipment, location, and instruction for the conditions for your ability.Justin SpeegleMay 18, 2017
Great experience. Great guys and gals teaching. Short boat ride to boarding area. Couldn't ask for a better experience.Peter SeymourAugust 16, 2016
My instructor was very knowledgeable, I felt very comfortable learning from her. They teach all aspects of kiting, kite control, setup, safety, packing up, and self recovery. They show good character and not just there to take your money, they really want you to learn.
I will attend their lessons again if I'm in the area next vacation. Jason BerryAugust 11, 2016
I've been taking lessons from BK for several years now. They are far and away the best kiteboarding teaching setup I've ever experienced -- and I tried several places on the crystal coast and near Hatteras. Both my kids have also learned from BK and had a great time.
A couple things make them really great. The first is their location. They work off of an island in the sound a few minutes from their shop. The area is shallow, which is great for learning, and there's little current to drag you around. The wind is consistently running along the sound which gives you plenty of room to get up and go and still return lose to where you left (one of the annoyances when learning to kiteboard is how often you have to slog back to where you start after taking a run, so this is big)
Another thing is the way they use Wilkie talkies that are attached to your helmet. This allows the instructor to Give you tips and feedback even when your up and going and too far away to hear them otherwise. This is great in combination with their other key asset -- their ability to size up what you're doing wrong and give you feedback in real time -- even when your hundreds of yards away. Kiteboarding is technically challenging and it's amazing how much little tips like "shift your weight more to your back foot", "turn up wind a little more", or bring your kite a little lower" can get you into a zone where you're really feeling locked in.
If you've never tried kiteboarding before. Definitely use BK. If you e had a disappointing kiteboarding experience in the past, it's not you. These guys can get you up and going and give you confidence in your ability to do it,Chris EvansJuly 9, 2016
Had a great experience learning to kiteboard. Mike is a great teacher and the conditions couldn't be better. We were able to get at least a few rides in every day for 6 days, and one day went for 5 hours. The shallow, warm water is ideal for beginners.Emily MoxleyMay 13, 2016
"The Blown Experience" Nothing but good things to say about this place. The owner Michael, is vary knowlageable of the industry and the sport of kiteboarding. He is dedicated to providing the best possible experience to new and advanced kiters. Awesome location that has much to offer. If your looking for a great time, Blown is the answer!Stuart ToddOctober 26, 2015
If you are interested in learning how to kiteboard or just looking for a great place to ride and progress in the sport, you have to check this place out! Take a ride on the blowntoon out to an ideaI kiteboarding spot on open shallow water. I could not have been happier with my experience with Blown Kiteboarding! Michael is awesome! Good place, friendly people, positive atmosphere. I haven't had a lesson with Blown, but I have come along on kiting day trips with their "Ticket to Ride" option. It's great for people who have had a few lessons and are ready to kite without an instructor, but who still want a beginner-safe location with experienced kiters around for safety. Tim McMackinJuly 28, 2014
Blown Kiteboarding offers a comprehensive approach to learning the sport of kiteboarding in a beautiful shallow water spot with very consistent winds which are optimal for beginners and anyone looking to improve their skills. My 13 year old daughter rode the board some her first day and had a blast with a friend in a safe, low stress environment. Michael Schrems is truly a professional instructor, knows how to teach effectively and is an excellent, experienced rider. I have ridden with him several times and have experienced first hand how he is always willing to help and observant of safety first, which is a key component to enjoying this sport. Blown kiteboarding also offers an excellent choice of equipment, kites and boards for any level.John HerlongMay 25, 2014
Love this place! Michael and the other instructors are all great teachers and the teaching location is absolutely perfect! We started off kiteboarding by watching videos and trying to teach ourselves, which worked for a little while, but I still couldn't figure out how to actually ride after I was up out of the water. One 2-hour lesson with Michael and I was up, riding, and even staying upwind! He is a phenomenal instructor and knows just what to say to make it click. Even though we're no longer taking lessons, we've continued going out with Michael using the 'ticket to ride' option because the location is so great and the people are pretty fun to hang out with too 🙂 Would definitely recommend Blown to anyone wanting to kite in the area.Kenady WilsonMay 6, 2014
Michael of Blown gave my 15 year old daughter her first lessons last week while I kited. The set-up is perfect as it is convenient and they have a great riding spot! My daughter progressed much farther than I expected under Michael's fantastic coaching and she is stoked to start riding.Smithy McIntoshApril 9, 2014
I have been kiteboarding for almost two years. I got my start in this incredibly fun sport through lessons with Michael Schrems of Blown Kiteboarding. He has been active in the sport for over seven years and is a gifted kiteboarder and teacher. Michael truly enjoys helping his students learn. He and his staff also care about the safely and advancement of their students. Along with teaching the basics of kiteboarding (flying the kite and getting up riding on the board), Michael instructs his students how to use the safety systems of the kite and how to perform a self rescue.
Blown Kiteboarding has an awesome location in the Southern Outer Banks. This is a great place to learn as the water is shallow and flat. I highly recommend kiteboarding lessons with Michael Schrems and Blown Kiteboarding.

These guys are great kiteboarders and teachers. Michael Schrems got me up and riding both ways. Now I have had lessons at 3 other places OBX but I still lacked the knowledge of the skills I needed to progress. After my lesson with Michael I felt I could focus on what I need to practice! I will definitely need more lessons but until then I can go out on their Ticket To Ride. This is such a great option where I got a ride on their boat to a paradise island shoal. They taught their lessons while I practiced my new found skills. They still gave me some advise and helped me launch my kite but other than that I was on my own. It was nice to just practice and gain confidence at my own speed. The view is not bad either!
The wind is blowing SSW and you are being taxied out to a paradise island shoal kiteboarder heaven. The island shoal is maybe 30 feet wide and several hundred yards long. The sound has waist high water and no deep holes. If you are taking a lesson the SSW wind easily blows you back to the island. While taking the Ticket To Ride I needed a break but there was no one around to catch my kite. That's not a problem here because you can easily land your kite in the smooth water on the back side of the island. It all feels very safe.
Blown Kiteboarding carries Cabrinha, Best, and, Liquid Force and several other brands of harnesses and such.
Hatteras has nothing on this place!Larkin TysorFebruary 14, 2014
When looking into learning how to kiteboard I originally started to look in the Wilmington area because it is the closest to Raleigh but then I came across Blown Kiteboarding. Blown Kiteboarding was only 20 minutes farther but their secret spot to learn cannot be beat. Their lesson location in Bouge Sound is waste deep water which is off of a sand bar that is to shallow for boat traffic and just perfect for learning to kiteboard. Michael and team have got me up and riding safely and helped me get some “new to me” gear without getting ripped off.
Michael cares about his past and present students and their safety. While kiteboarding on my own with a group of people Michael kept an eye on me and came to the rescue to give me my board back after a fall even though I was not currently paying to take lessons. Michael loves the sport and his energy and excitement will make you love it to. I highly recommend making the trip to Emerald Isle to Blown Kiteboarding.

Blown kiteboarding stands head and shoulders above any adventure sports instruction/training school I've ever experienced. Michael takes his job as a coach, guide, and teacher seriously.. and his role as a leader in the local kiteboarding community earnestly. The Blown kiteboarding school emphasizes all the right skills.. safety first, fundamentals second, and riding and tacking upwind soon after. In each of these elements, Michael has improved the learning experience and designed Blown lessons to be better.. from the perfect beginner's kite spot with shallow flat water to instructional tips'n'tricks that keep the student on the board, flying the kite, and riding longer than lessons elsewhere.
Personally, my experience with blown kiteboarding has grown beyond just a kiteboarding school for beginners.. Michael has kept me out on the water, improved my sport and safety, and helped transition this inland boy into a waterman here on the NC coast. Jerry MoxleyFebruary 2, 2014
Blown Kiteboarding is the spot for all things kiteboarding on the Crystal Coast. I have seen so many people surprise themselves with how quickly they could learn something that they never thought they would be able to do. The teaching location really is the absolute IDEAL spot to learn and was the place where I was able to go from only being able to ride back and forth, to riding toe side and jumping over 20feet in just one season. If you are vacationing in Emerald Isle, or Atlantic Beach check it out! Sarah RilingerJanuary 27, 2014
This is my first google review and I'm surprised no one else has commented about Blown Kiteboarding.
I took a lesson from here on 9/13 and my expectations were exceeded. I showed up very early for my lesson and just talked with Michael (the owner) until my instructor got there. He's a very down to earth no BS kind of guy. Richard was my teacher (highly recommended). Once Richard arrived we started immediately despite being over an hour before the pre-agreed start time. My only prior experience was a day of wake boarding, I've never set foot on any kind of board. I came in thinking that I was going to flail around for 3 hours and I was fully prepared to go home disappointed. With in 3 hours I was up and riding, albeit poorly and only in one direction. I was so pumped I wanted to ride an extra hour and they extended my lesson without a problem. Richard was an awesome teacher and didn't hold anything back to try and get me to buy an extra lesson. If you want to learn how to kiteboard or just try it, look here first. Michael provides an inexpensive, professional, entertaining, and most importantly, a safe experience. I have looked around and seen many other alternatives providing a similar level of professional expertise at much higher costs or a similar price but of dangerous quality. Michael prices his gear very reasonably and doesn't try to "sell" you anything; if you're interested he'll help you out, if not he doesn't get pushy. He's basically a one man show who clearly put a lot of money and effort in to his business. When you buy gear or lessons from him you're not throwing money into a bloated corporation, for once you're actually helping an individual make a living off his passion and having a great time helping him out. If nothing else at least give him a call, you'll be glad you did.
TL;DR: Kiteboarding is awesome. If you want to learn go here, plus owner is good dude. Lloyd BoltonSeptember 20, 2013
